El Ranseed, a filthy beggar finds a magic
soft-drink can and is granted three wishes
by the Genie of the Can. His first wish is
to have a food plate that never empties, and
so later, just by chance, he is appointed
Chief Food Taster to the Sultan, having been
apprehended by Mustaphaslap and Mustaphatickle,
the rather dim-witted palace guards.
Dame Fatty Ma and her two sons, Ali Baba (the
dopey one) and Kassim Baba (the intelligent,
handsome one) are introduced and play out
a few Christmas gags and a 'setting the dinner
table' routine. Kassim then falls in love
with the beautiful Sultan's daughter, Princess
Yasmin. El Ranseed becoming tired of the constant
demands upon his stomach and being avaricious
for a higher station in life, demands his
second wish of the Genie. Knowing that he
cannot wish for anything which will provide
him with 'personal' gain', he wishes that
the Genie and he, change places. Once this
takes place, he naturally becomes power-mad.
The Dame meets Abdul the Camel and has a couple
of gag routines with it. Meanwhile El Ranseed
has usurped the Sultan and is now demanding
payment following a big tax increase for all
the citizens. Slap and Tickle come to collect
from the Dame and she persuades them to lend
her some money, and then tricks them with
a diversionary counting routine. They get
confused and think she has given them the
right amount and leave, with the Dame keeping
the remainder. Ali and Kassim then join the
Dame for a routine of rolling out bread dough
/ breaking eggs etc during which a gorilla
enters for the 'behind you' and other routines,
including squirting water pistols at the audience
just prior to the Interval.
El Ranseed demonstrates his newly acquired
powers to his harem by trapping the women's
voices in a bottle, thus rendering them speechless,
and then advises that he has decided to marry
the Princess Yasmin, that very night. Unfortunately
there is no money to pay for the wedding feast
(Slap and Tickle having brought back only
IOU's), so El Ranseed casts a spell on his
harem turning them into a vicious marauding
gang of cut throat thieves bent solely on
filling his coffers.
The Dame, and Slap and Tickle perform a number-board
routine as the idiots try to outwit the Dame
to get their money back, failing miserably
of course. She then tries to deposit the money
at a talking ATM which proceeds to hit her
in the face with a boxing glove, drops a bag
of flour on her head and then hits her over
the head with a large hammer.
While she is lying on the ground outside the
bank, El Ranseed and his forty-strong Harem
of thieves appear. By this time he is rapidly
turning into a demonic character (with horns
etc) and with an 'Open Sessame' they enter
the bank vault. Ali and Kassim come to the
aid of the Dame, and having overheard the
password to open the vault, the Dame and her
sons enter
Inside it is dark (UV lighting etc), with
'things that go bump' (ie spiders dropping
in, gorillas, ghosts and the 'walking backwards'
routine). The Dame and Ali with the Genie
and Kassim then sing a song with the audience
and play one side off (louder/better etc)
against the other. The vault not only contains
the sacks brought in by the forty thieves,
but a huge amount of gold, jewels and other
treasure. The Genie says that this all belongs
to her, and if they want it, they can have
it. She tells Kassim that if he wants to marry
the Princess, he will have to fight El Ranseed,
and gives him a magic ring to wear.
The Dame decides to open a night cub with
her share of the money, and on the opening
night El Ranseed and the Princess Yasmin are
first in the queue. Kassim picks a fight with
El Ranseed, using the magic ring to reverse
all the spells that El Ranseed subjects him
to (ie bray like a donkey, pinching by devils
etc). They then have a fight with swords,
which El Ranseed loses (hurrah!). The Genie
re-appears and tells El Ranseed that he has
broken the 'Genie's Code', 'and he must reap,
what he has sowed'. With everybody restored
to their former positions, El Ranseed is forgiven,
but demands his third wish., which the Genie,
under the 'Genie's Code' has to grant. Having
'seen the light', he asks to be returned to
the city as a beggar, while everybody else
celebrates their good fortune - the Dame,
now a wealthy showbiz-type, the benevolent
Sultan now in charge again and Kassim and
the Princess being married just prior to the
walk down into the finale. |
