An argument between the Demon and the
Fairy about who's going to win the day results
in the Demon breakiing the power-removal
spell that the Fairy placed last year on
Winnie the Witch. With her black powers
restored, Winnie, with the demon in tow,
sets about trying to regain the things lost
to her - money (she casts a spell to transfer
the contents of the Palace vaults to her
cottage) and a child to boil up and eat
for dinner!
Dame Fluffalot arrives and sends her children,
Hansel and Gretel, off to buy some ingredients
for baking a cake - yes, it's very messy
for all concerned when they later get the
mixing bowls out.
On their travels, Hansel meets Winnie who
has decided to give out magic lollipops
to unsuspecting children - lollipops that
put them under her influence - and greedy
Hansel takes a handful. Gretel meets the
handsome Prince Rupert who, after having
beaten off an advance by Dame Fluffalot,
falls madly in love with her.
Rupert explains to them that the Palace
Vaults have been mysteriously robbed and
that the entire Palace Guard are out looking
for the culprits. Enter Num and Skull who
attempt to question the Dame, with a spectacular
lack of success, and end up assisting in
the cake-making routine at the end of Act
One when Baron Jasper (the Dame's landlord)
gets a custard pie in his face instead of
the rent money he was expecting.
Act Two opens with the Baron trying (unsuccessfully)
to extract the rent money from the numerically
challenged Dame, but ends up with a handful
of lollies instead. After he has a spell
put on him by the Demon, then taken off
him by the Fairy, he leaves feeling confused,
but determined to raise an army of lollipop
men (and women).
Hansel explains to the Dame about his new-found
craving for lollies and before he goes off
in search of the 'kind old lady' who gave
him the lolly, they lead the audience singing
competition with 'On The Good Ship Lollipop'.
The mood darkens as the Demon, determined
to seek revenge for being under Winnie's
influence calls up his chorus of Demonettes,
one of whom sings an appropriate song -
'My Boy Lollipop'.
The Baron meets up with Num and Skull in
the haunted wild wood where he tells them
of a change of plan regarding finding the
Palace treasure - "diamonds are out
and lollipops are in" - and that white
coats are now the order of the day. Robin
Hood enters and demands their 'lolly' and
they all meet Alice and the White Rabbit.
For various reasons the entire cast are
either walking or running through the wood
unaware that it hides Winnie's cottage.
By 'fate', the Dame, Gretel, Rupert, Hansel
and Santa Claus (who has missed the last
train to the North Pole) meet up right outside
Winnie's front door. Smiling sweetly, she
invites them inside for a cup of tea, but
promptly imprisons them in a cage. At this
point the Baron, Num, Skull and the Lollipop
Army arrive, but Winnie casts a spell and
they are blown offstage by a great wind,
leaving only the Demon and the Fairy to
save the day. With the help of the Demon,
the Fairy regains her control over Winnie,
destroying her evil powers forever. |
